Harold Carmichael. He was one of the tallest and most-gifted Wide Receivers in NFL history. Had Carmichael played in this era, he would have been comparable to an Antonio Gates or Jimmy Graham more akin to a Wide Receiver/Tight End. Carmichael produced very strong statistics for his time coming 15 yards short of 9,000 career receiving yards. With 79 TDs as well, he proved that he could take the ball into the end zone as well.
Although Carmichael has never been seriously considered a candidate for the Hall of Fame, his career statistics outshine many of his Hall of Fame contemporaries, most notably Lynn Swann. As a child, during the 1980s and 90s, I was an extremely avid reader of sports statistics, especially in relation to the NFL. In the early 1990s, after numerous studies of Wide Receivers across the NFL in the 1970s and 80s, I came to the general conclusion that Carmichael produced some of the best numbers in NFL history but was not regarded with the greats by most NFL historians.
As an active hobbyist, in the early 1990s, I began the task of collecting Harold Carmichael cards from his career. There are a lot of different cards out there actually made throughout his career. While I have many of them, there are some less-available issues out there which have eluded me somehow (even with ebay).
